Designing a book cover

Start
by filling the background with a solid color.

|
| Open
an image of a man. |
|
|
| Open
another image of inside of a brain. |
|
|
| Drag
both images to the main file and knock out their background
using any of the cutout methods. |
|
|
| Hide
the brain layer. Select the man layer. Create a rectangular
selection using rectangular marquee tool. Press delete. |
|
|
| Unhide
and scale down the brain layer move it below the man layer in
layer order in layer palette. |
|
|
| Create
a circle using elliptical shape tool. |
|
|
| Create
a rectangle using rectangular shape tool. |
|
|
| Duplicate
layer and rotate it 60°. Again duplicate layer and also
rotate it 60°. Select and merge these three layers. |

|
| Create
a circular selection using elliptical marquee tool. Press
delete to create a hole. |
|
|
| Duplicate
several times. Enable lock transparency pixels form the layer
palette for each layer and fill with different colors. Move
the bigger one below the man layer in layer order. |

|
| Apply
stroke and shadow to these wheels. Select man, brain and
bigger wheel layer. Merge these layers together. |
|
|
| Double
click the resulting layer to open layer style window. Apply
layer style with the settings shown. |
|
|
|
|
| Create
a big rectangle using rectangular shape tool. |
|
|
| Enable
subtract form shape area form the top bar. Create another
rectangle, a bit smaller than the previous one using
rectangular shape tool. This will create a thin border. |
|
|
| Type
the text using a bold font. Apply some shadow. |
|
|
| Complete
the cover by typing the author name and other details. |
